News and Updates Valued Athletes, We have been working tirelessly for you to find a new venue for the 2008 Meltdown and have been communicating our efforts to you via email for the past two months. It is with regret and frustration that I inform you we will not be able to hold the 2008 Midwest Meltdown Triathlon. With budget cuts by Wyandotte County it is too late in the season for us to properly secure a location that is safe and provides a challenge for our athletes. It is our intention to put on events that exceed your expectations. When we run up against a challenge, we’ll exhaust every possible solution to keep the event in the water, on the road and on the trail. We are pleased to announce the City of Paola will host the 2009 Midwest Meltdown Triathlon on September 6th at Lake Miola. What is New for 2008 New domain names for the Midwest Meltdown and the Midwest Mayhem. The events were hosted on one site in past years. In the future the events will be hosted with their own domain names. The new domains are www.midwestmeltdowntriathlon.com and www.midwestmayhemtriathlon.com Improved websites. To better serve the athlete KLM has refined each event site to be more consistent from site to site and event to event. The new look for 2008 has been launched and we are currently updating all site content. All 2008 event information will be posted by February 1st, 2008. Online Survey. To better server each athlete KLM will now offer an online survey for each event. The purpose is to get the ideas and opinions of our customers. We receive e-mails from athletes but, this will provide us with more accurate data. This will help us improve all our events. Where do you find the surveys? KLM will send e-mail notification about upcoming surveys in the near future. What do you do? Click on the link and answer the questions! The information is then provided to KLM for review. Team competition will be offered for all Long and Short Course Triathlons. Teams will not be offered for any Duathlon’s or Half Distance Triathlons. New apparel! KLM will offer great clothing from Verge Sport! Do you remember those cool shirts from the 2007 Jackson County Triathlon? Well, they are here for all Multisport events in 2008. That’s right! No more cotton T-Shirts! Each Pre-Registered participant will receive an event T-Shirt from Verge Sport. The shirts will be specific for each event. A photo of the shirt can be found on the home page of each event website. Look under the News and Updates! Sponsor Concept Pages. Some sponsors are partaking in the new Sponsor Concept Program that is offered by KLM. It is our goal to provide great deals to the athletes and how to utilize the sponsor’s products. Currently on each event site you will find information about GU Sports Nutrition. Look for great deals on GU products and other sponsors of all KLM events. Who else is on board for 2008? We have a lot in the works! ZIPP Wheels and Maxxis Tires are just a few on the 2008 Roster! Event Logos. We want to offer the athletes a fresh, new look instead of receiving a t-shirt with the same old logo every year. Each event has a new image and feel. Registration incentive programs. Similar to 2007 but, BETTER! KLM will offer more prize incentives from our sponsors! When you register for each event prizes will be offered as an incentive to participant. Athletes will receive e-mail notifications about each incentive programs! All incentive programs will begin February 1st, 2008 New and improved awards! It’s time for something new. We will be offering new awards for all age groups and overall winners. We are also working on product prizes from our sponsors for the overall winners of each race. More to follow in the near future! A photo of the trophy can be found on the home page of each event website. Look under the News and Updates! Volunteer program. If an athlete volunteers for any KLM event they will be offered one free entry to a 2008 event. This does not include any of the Half Triathlon or Half Duathlon Distances. In addition to a free entry fee KLM is working on additional volunteer incentive programs. Athletes may sign-up to volunteer by visiting any KLM event website. Athletes have many volunteer options to choose from. Weather Policy.Mother Nature isn’t always the nicest when you live in the Midwest! We have implemented a weather policy for all events to avoid any confusion in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. The new policy can be viewed on the home page of each event website. XTERRA Events. Not necessarily new for 2008 but… KLM will no longer be hosting any XTERRA events in 2008. The Midwest Mudder and all XTERRA Trail Runs were removed from the 2008 calendar due to low attendance. Weather Policy:
In the event of bad weather that may cause any KLM event to be delayed or canceled the following protocol will be followed.
- A safety assessment of the current weather at race time will be determined by KLM Marketing Solutions and local law enforcement agencies.
- If the KLM staff or local law enforcement agencies feel it is unsafe to compete, the race will be delayed 15 minutes.
- After the 15 minutes has passed another assessment will be conducted at that time.
- If the KLM staff and local law enforcement agencies feel it is safe the race will then be started.
- In the event that the weather does not allow the event to start after the first 15 minute delay and second and final 15 minute delay will be put in place.
- After the second 15 minute delay has passed and it is safe to compete the race will then be started.
- In the event that the weather does not allow the event to start after the second 15 minute delay the race will then be canceled.
- Upon the cancellation of the event it will not be rescheduled for that calendar year.
- Under no circumstances will refunds be offered due to an event being canceled because of weather.
NO REFUNDS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR ANY KLM MARKETING SOLUTIONS EVENTS (HEREAFTER "KLM"), REGARDLESS OF THE REASONS.
IF AN ATHLETE REGISTERS FOR ANY KLM EVENT AND CAN NOT ATTEND DUE TO ILLNESS, INJURIES OR PERSONAL REASONS YOUR
REGISTRATION FEE WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER KLM EVENT, NOR WILL A REFUND BE ALLOWED. PLEASE READ EACH
REGISTRATION STEP THOROUGHLY BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE NEXT STEP. THIS IS A STANDARD OPERATION PROCEDURE OF ALL
KLM EVENTS AND THE KANSAS CITY SPORTS COMMISSION.
